The movie which cost $175 million make seems set to recoup the money spent in production in record time.

Sony had previously projected that the movie would earn £80 million in its opening weekend but it seems likely that the movie would make close to $88 million as E News claim. Those figures would put Spiderman: Homecoming in the league of Sam Raimi’s trilogy which brought in similar figurers in its opening weekend. These figures would help the movie recover from the shattered image created by the last release. The last Spiderman movie made in 2012 brought in only $62 million in its opening weekend.

The reasons cited for the positive outlook that the movie has garnered are good marketing strategy, word of mouth effect, good review from critics and the new Marvel & Sony partnership. Metacritic gave the movie a 73 score which is well above average. The movie also got similar reviews from Rottentomatos. The movie has also enjoyed goodwill generated from the fact that Spiderman would be part of the next Avenger Movie which made possible by the agreement reached between Sony and Marvel pictures.

Finally the wait is over for fans of the webmaster as they can turn out in incredible numbers to see their favourite super hero doing what he does best.

Box office projections going into the weekend has it that the latest addition to the Spiderman family would gross over $100 million in its opening weekend. The movie, which would start showing in cinemas in America and around the world this weekend, is also expected to gross between $190M-$210M worldwide. The favourable projections are hinged on the fact that the movie has gotten some favourable reviews and the anticipation of fans to see the new movie.

Coming off a recent partnership between holders of the Spiderman brand Sony and Comic giant Marvel the movie takes the webmaster back to his high school days and tries to retell the Spiderman story from the beginning. The partnership between the two movies houses would allow for the Spiderman story to be integrated into marvel already established brands like the Avenger series.

The movie would open in 4,341 North American locations over the weekend. It would also be screened in IMAX in 392 of those locations. Preview of the opening would start at 7 pm in most location. The release would also be boosted by the movie’s 90% Rotten Tomato rating score which has helped build anticipation for the release of the movie.

Spiderman movies have done well in the past in their opening week with Spiderman 3 also grossing over $100 million in its opening week. However “The Amazing Spider-Man” did not follow this trend as it brought in only $60 million in its opening weekend. This was caused by the negative reviews received by the movie at that time.

The box office earning of Spiderman: Homecoming would also be boosted by the fact that the movie is the only major release to come out of Hollywood this week. Major film house are scared to release their movies in the same weekend with Spiderman so as to not share the spotlight. However, IFC is launching “City of Ghosts” which is a documentary about Syrian rebels and would be launched in limited cinemas.

Other movies expected to keep their reign in the box office are Despicable Me 3,” “Baby Driver,” “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Wonder Woman”. The Spiderman movie would hope to be part of this list in weeks to come.

Spiderman Homecoming Premier and the Avengers Angle

The premiere of the new Spiderman movie dubbed “Spiderman: Homecoming” held yesterday in Hollywood to the pleasure of stars and fans alike. The movie, which hits cinemas around the world on the 7th of June, stars Tom Holland as Spiderman, a teenager who was bitten by a spider and is given super powers from the bite and also stars Michael Keaton as the super villain. The story, like the first Spiderman movies puts the superhero back in his high school days where his journey began. It is however unclear if the sequel to this which would be out in 2019 would still feature the web maker in school.

Heat Vision speaking to Kevin Feign gathered that intention of the movie makers was not to make a High school movie. The Marvel Studios head explained that their intention was to make an adventure movie. He drew comparison between Spiderman and classic “Back to the Future” which is a movie about time travel and explained that though the cast in that movie were young, it didn’t necessarily portray the movie is a purely teenage movie.

Another interesting angle to the premier is the recent partnership between Sony pictures, which hold the exclusive right to shoot Spiderman movie and Marvel pictures. The two movie giant entered into an agreement earlier in the week over how the Spiderman franchise would be handled in the future. The agreement ensures that Spiderman would be cast in Marvel movies comprising of various superheroes. The avengers franchise being the major recipient of this agreement would cast Spiderman in its upcoming sequel. So it wasn’t surprising when stars like, Robert Downey Jr, who plays Iron Man in the Avenger movies was seen smiling to the Camera at the Spiderman premier.

On a lighter note, comedian Hannibal Buress who plays Coach Wilson in the movie had was in trouble online for missing the premier and hiring an imposter to take his place. The actor employed Joe Carroll to stand in his place as he was busy with another movie tag line. This did not play out well for the comedian in the media as people felt it was weird for him to act in such a manner.

  • Details of Marvel New Spiderman Deal with Sony

Details of Marvel New Spiderman Deal with Sony

For a long time fans of marvel hit comic character “Spiderman” have clamoured for the character like other Marvel character to be included as part of marvel movies. This has been in the past made impossible since Sony pictures held the exclusive right to use Spiderman since 1999. Bringing the character into marvel movies would have been too expensive for marvel as they would have to pay Sony for the rights to use the character. However, a new deal between Sony and Marvel has made this relatively cheap for marvel.

In a report released by the Los Angeles Times the foundation for the deal was said to have been laid when Sony executives Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton met with Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter in 2015 to chart a new course with regards to how the Spiderman franchise is handled. Sony, coming off a not so impressive release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was a box office flop, was willing to renegotiate terms with Marvel on how best to deal with Spiderman.

According to reliable sources close to the film house, the new deal ensures that marvel would not have to pay Sony for the rights to cast Spiderman in their already successful franchises “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Avengers”. Though on the other side of the deal is the fact that Sony do not need to pay marvel royalties from revenue derived from any movie by Sony that cast Spiderman. However, this is subject to some box office milestones that trigger Marvel right to enjoy financial benefits from the movies.

Character crossover has been a difficult feet before this agreement. This is made clear as Marvel and Fox cast different actors to play Quicksilver in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” All of that is how mow been changed by the signing of this revolutionary deal.

Sony are hoping that the deal would return Spiderman to “fan favourite” status again with the ultimate goal of recasting the character after life has been injected into it. Marvels on the other hand, have been itching to get their hands on Spiderman since it was lost in 1999.

The biggest winner in all of this would be marvel‘s loyal fan who would not have to choose between their favourite character since they would all be in the same movies.
