‘The Mummy’ Takes Home $52 Million At China Box Office Opening

The Mummy has won the Chinese Box Office opening with $52 million. The gain was considerably better than the poor performance the film got in North America over the weekend. The film played about 105,000 screening each day in China from Friday to Sunday.

The film, which features Tom Cruise scored $17.5 million on Friday, $19.1 million on Saturday, and $13.9 million on Sunday. The total score topped up by another $1 million from the previews, came to the seventh highest opening rank of the year. The film trailed slightly ahead of the Beauty and the Beast, Logan, and the Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2.

The Wonder Woman won the weekend’s domestic box office in the United States for the second time straight with an approximate $57 million. The film has at the moment brought about the $205 million domestically. The Wonder Woman buried The Mommy but the performance was decided even before the weekend came closer.

The Indian-based film Dangal won $5.06 million in six weeks. For 17 days, the Pirates has attained $162 million a score that both The Mummy and Wonder Woman are not likely to match. The top Chinese box office opening was the romance movie How Are You. It scored $4.30 million in its fifth position.

One of the latest movies the Doraemon managed by the Japanese animation franchise got the sixth place with a score of $1.7 million even though it suffered a huge slump. In only 13 days, the movie has accumulated about $19.7 million. There was no other title that attained over $1 million over the last weekend. Other movies such as the China’s Haunted Graduation Photo scored $310, 000, and the Love Without Words scored $280, 000.

The latest film in the “Doraemon” Japanese animation franchise took sixth place with $1.87 million, albeit suffering a big slump. After 13 days it has a cumulative of $19.7 million. • Wonder Woman Looks Forward To Challenge ‘The Mummy’ At Box Office

Wonder Woman Looks Forward To Challenge ‘The Mummy’ At Box Office

The Mummy is likely to slump under the feet of Wonder Woman towards the weekend at US box office which concludes on June 11. If the pre-release prediction is correct, the Universal’s film,  The Mummy which features Tom Cruise as the main character, might not attain more than $35 million from the 4,000 plays, a move that has put too much pressure on the movie’s foreign performance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Mummy reboot is supposed to draw between $35 million and $40 million during the domestic opening at the box office. On June 8, the major tracking service company further lowered The Mummy projections from $35 million to $33 million citing poor reviews ratings from the influencers.

The modern action film which was directed by Alex Kurtzman cost more than $125 million to build. The film is currently anticipated to perform fairly in the foreign markets for it has previously scaled high in South Korea with about $7 million achieved in a single day. Other stars featured in the movie include; Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Russell Crowe, Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance.

At the moment, the Wonder Woman that was released last weekend at the box office is expected to break sale record of more than $50 million in the coming weekend. Another film that is likely to perform better is the Captain Underpants which features Kevin Hart’s voice among others.

Apart from The Mummy, other films opening this weekend include the indie-horror, It Comes At Night featuring Joel Edgerton which is expected to gross between $6 million to $7 million from an estimate of about 2,500 dramas. There is also the true-life war hero play, ‘Megan Leavey’, starring Kate Mara.

It’s obvious that Wonder Woman will retain the first position in the second weekend with more than $50 million as a result of its popularity among the viewers. It will be a big challenge for The Mummy or another film-maker to surpass Wonder Woman’s prime position for the awaiting three-day period. The audience is eagerly waiting for the turn out of events over the weekend.
