Actor Michael Nyqvist Dies At 56

Swedish actor notable for his role in the original “girl with the dragon tattoo” and “John Wick” has passed on at age 56 after a battle with lung cancer. The Swedish star was said to have passed on surrounded by family and loved ones after his cancer battle. In a statement released by his representative Alissa Goodman, it was emphasised that “Michael’s joy and passion were infectious to those who knew and loved him”. The statement also emphasised the stars passion and love for the arts.

Nygvist, who got his acting training at the Malmo Theatre Academy, got his first hit in the film industry starring as a misguided husband with anger issues in the Swedish comedy drama “Together”. The role earned him his first Guldbagge Award nomination for best actor. The Swedish start that was relatively unknown at this time was later starred in “As It Is in Heaven” in 2004 improving his profile in the movie industry.

His biggest break in the movie industry came in the Swedish trilogy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ where Nyqvist starred alongside co-star Naomi Rapace who played the heroine. The movie got international recognition and which shine the spotlight in the start act. The movie was later adapted to an English version in 2011 staring Daniel Craig as the lead actor.

The star success did not end with “the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is he later broke into the American movie industry the villain in several movies. In “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” staring American actor Tom cruise he played the threat to cruise’s mission that was later neutralised by the star. Also starring alongside Keanu Reeves in “John Wick” he played the criminal business man who was later killed by John wicks. The actor seems to be properly suited for villain roles.

The actor is also the author of an autobiography when in 2010 he authored memoir Just After Dreaming which detailed his search for his biological parent.

The star that is survived by his wife, Catharina, and their children, Ellen and Arthur would be remembered for his energetic demeanour.
